Is anybody out there?

GP has been taking a self imposed break from the blogosphere, after the unwelcome discovery of her blog. You know who you are, and if you are reading this I would prefer that you weren't. But then, that's the rule with blogging - you have to put stuff out there and cannot control who comes across it. So tentatively, back into the fray, on the pitch and playing and all those other cliches...

On a more serious note, it does make me think about how inadvertantly exposing the web can be. Solipsistically, one can type away thinking that what gets sent out there disappears into nothingness, where as in fact it's available to all sorts of punters (I was surprised to see someone from the Ministry of Finance in Dubai reading the other day). The part that surprised me was that anyone with an ounce of computer literacy can track URLs (I don't believe the bollocks about finding this from a google search - even people who know me can't do that!)

So - motto for today, anyone who's thinking of sharing intimacies, posting semi nude photos or launching a major confessional, just think twice. GP isn't watching you, but you don't know who is........

It is one of my fears.. But I've established a rule to never post something I would be embarassed about if someone I know reads it. (so no full frontal nude pics then! :)
But still, not a nice feeling when it happens I can imagine,

I think it all depends whether you care what people think of you. and the type of attention you want.

I don't like much in my personal life, personal space or body. Others do.

Each to their own.

Welcome back GP - I missed you.

I think Evie has a good rule. It is the same with emails. Never write something in an email that you wouldn't put up on a bulletin board. You never know where it will end up.

Here's to a successful toe dipping

I once emailed a blogger acquaintance who'd posted very detailed accounts of her (very casual) sex life to say that I thought it was a bit of a concern that from her blog posts, you could readily identify what college she went to and where her halls of residence was. As you discovered, GP, there are all sorts of people out there...

She replied "Thanks for the concern but that's how I want to write my blog".

Fair enough I suppose, but it still makes me feel uneasy on her behalf.

Wow, fantastic! Delighted to have found your blog. Will follow with interest and delight! Don't be put off by idiots and weirdos - if that is what your blog is, at least partly, about - they are invariably outnumbered by cool normal(ish) people. It's just that the cool people tend to make less noise.
